Court Monitor

Court monitors attend local court proceedings involving impaired driving and keep a record of the types of offences and sentencing handed down in these cases. This volunteer position involves taking two sets of online training from MADD Canada. Victim Service Volunteer (VSV) Level 1 training takes approximately ten hours. On completion, Court Monitor training will take approximately three hours. This important and visible role is open to all volunteers who are available during weekday, daytime hours and who complete the training. Court monitors must pass a criminal record check.

Education and Awareness

This is a new opportunity for London and we are excited to develop it. This position involves creating ways to reach Thames Valley District students with MADD Canada’s message. Working in conjunction with the London Public Health Nurses, volunteers will speak in classrooms and assemblies, using such tools as the Braking Point and The Ripple Effect presentations. Volunteers with strong public speaking skills and a desire to work with youth would enjoy this position.

Fundraising

You would be responsible for helping raise funds and find corporate sponsors with our Director of Fundraising.

Golf Tournament & Silent Auction

Volunteers can participate by playing in, by working at the tournament, or by sitting on the tournament planning committee. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, May 30th at Forest City National Golf Club.

Project Red Ribbon

Every year from November to January, MADD London participates in MADD Canada’s most visible fundraising campaign. Preparation for this event involves distributing donation boxes to local businesses and volunteering at our Red Ribbon kiosks, located in several stores around London, during November. The London Knights also host a Project Red Ribbon Night and volunteers are needed to collect funds and hand out red ribbons. Volunteers who are interested in working with the public and are available to check donation boxes weekly would enjoy this position.

R.I.D.E. Spotchecks

Throughout the year, MADD London sponsors two to three Ride Spot Checks. These checks are staffed by off-duty area police officers and MADD London volunteers are present to distribute MADD materials to drivers. We also provide volunteers for checks operated by the London Police. These spot checks are sometimes in place until 2:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m., so this position would suit individuals who are available for very late hours and who enjoy working with the public and the police.

Strides for Change Walkathon

Each June, MADD London Chapter holds the Strides For Change Walk. This walk is our major fundraiser and awareness campaign. We encourage all of our volunteers to participate either by walking or assisting at the walk on the day of the event. We need volunteers to be route marshals and we also need help with registration, food preparation, setup, cleanup, and staffing of displays and the Kid Zone.
